Smiles
that conceal pain and tears,
That
oft I use to mask my fears,
What
tales they hide I cannot say,
And
perhaps it’s best that way.
For
the mind fills up with doubts,
And
questions that convictions flout;
The
heart too can’t contain the pain
And
hopelessness can bring no gain.
A
smile at such times – false or true -
Can
comfort others, if not you;
And
while it cannot change your day,
It
may brighten another’s way,
And
when you are down and out and need one too,
Someone’s
smile may work for you.
