Somewhere deep down the pain that I feel
Somewhere unresolved numerous questions reel
The joy of the morning fades through the day
And the darkness of night within me I lay
The body and mind with heaviness fill
Emptying the being; making it still
That’s when memories save the day
They rescue you however they may
For you are their owner and false or true
None can question them for you
So create your memories and save them well
They are the only way out of a personal hell.

Smiles that conceal pain and tears,
That oft I use to mask my fears,
What tales they hide I cannot say,
And perhaps it’s best that way.

For the mind fills up with doubts,
And questions that convictions flout;
The heart too can’t contain the pain
And hopelessness can bring no gain.

A smile at such times – false or true -
Can comfort others, if not you;
And while it cannot change your day,
It may brighten another’s way,
And when you are down and out and need one too,
Someone’s smile may work for you.
